Words That Heal

inspired by proverbs 16:24 and a friend who changed me

kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healing to the bone
kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healing to the bone

I met a girl some time ago, and without even knowing it, she left a mark on my heart.

She was kind, gentle, and warm. But what stood out more than anything else were her words.

Every time we met, her first words were something kind.

“You look beautiful today.”

“I love your hair.”

“That’s a nice top!”

Now, if you know me, you know I’ve never been great at receiving compliments. I’d usually smile, say a quick “thank you,” and brush it off. But she kept doing it. And then one day, I noticed something that really stuck with me:

She wasn’t just like that with me.

She was like that with everyone.

Her default greeting was kindness. Whether it was a compliment, a word of encouragement, or even a hug. She just led with love. It was so natural, so genuine and I found myself admiring her more and more.

Why?

Because I’ve also seen the opposite.

I’ve met people whose first few words are criticisms, jabs, or reminders of your insecurities.

Sometimes, you walk away from them feeling smaller than when you came.

But this friend, her words lifted people.

And honestly, that’s powerful.

It reminded me of a verse I came across recently:

Proverbs 16:24 – “Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

And I thought… what a beautiful truth.

Because here’s the thing: life is hard. People are hurting.

Some are fighting silent battles. Some barely made it out of bed this morning.

And then you meet them… and your words become a turning point in their day.

And you know what?

I’ve learned from her.

I’ve tried to emulate that spirit of kindness so much that…

people sometimes joke that I’m “sweet talking.” 😅

But if only they knew, it’s not flattery, it’s intentional love.

It’s trying to do for others what she did for me.

Because I’ve seen how a single kind word can heal.

They have healed me.

And that’s why I still talk about her. That friend.

The one whose kindness became her signature.

She showed me, without preaching, that small, intentional words can leave a lasting impact.

clothe yourself in kindness
clothe yourself in kindness

So my message is;

Let your words be kind.

Let them be honey.

Because you never know whose bones need healing and how your voice might be the balm.

So a big Shoutout to That Friend:

If you ever read this… thank you.

Your kindness changed me more than you’ll ever know.

This one’s for you. 🐝🍯
